Tales from the Trail of a YA Author – Penelope on Queen Mary

Season greetings and ahoy maties! I recently had the pleasure of going to the Queen Mary in Long Beach for the first time to see my friend Brian Mulligan, drama teacher  at Santa Monica’s  Crossroads School  http://www.xrds.org/page,  perform in “Penelope,” inspired by Homer’s classic “Odyssey”. The show, penned by award-winning Irish writer Enda Walsh is a funny retelling of four men’s attempts to woo the beautiful Penelope in her husband’s absence.

Brian and fellow actors Craig Anton, Roberto Alcaraz and Andre Garner performed in the show as part of the California State Long Beach 2 year MFA program in Theatre-Performance for mid-career professional actors.

The California Repertory Company is the performance arm of the program and often presents its shows onboard the Queen Mary. But due to a leak (oh no!! ), the show has moved to the Players Theater on the Cal State Long Beach campus. It’s scheduled to end on December 7. For more info: http://www.calrep.org/

Do check out Penelope and if you’re interested in some more nautical fun, you may also want to head over to the iconic Queen Mary for other holiday fun, like a new attraction dubbed Chill featuring an ice kingdom, castles, a 6,500 square foot ice skating rink and a 100 foot ice slide!!

Hope you’re having a warm and heartfelt holiday season!
